Grazhdanskaya Oborona “Zdorovo I Vechno”, this LP “Great and Eternal” is by far the most subversive, noisy and abrasive of all the GrOb material in my opinion. The lyrics are among the most poetic and downright venomous. With lines like “The builder of communism loves communism, a KGB officer approves the KGB, any correct bullet loves the machine gun - the party - the mind, honor and conscience of the era, great and eternal, great and eternal”, it’s no wonder the group leader Yegor Letov was once taken by the KGB and interrogated for “anti-soviet, anti-communist activities” and forced into a sort of internal exile. Yegor Letov is by far the most important figure of Russian punk and it’s impossible to overstate how crucial his words and music were and are in the Russian speaking world. With the motto “I will always be against…” Yegor created some of the most abrasive, unique and vicious punk to ever exist.
